Like most of Australians, we have also been brought up on coffee from Papua New Guinea. Imagine lush tropical highlands and coffee trees growing down the back-bone of this tropical island. You won’t get coffee that’s more organic – the lack of infrastructure means natural farming methods are prevalent, there is practically no use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. The high quality Arabica coffee is bold, has rich palette & dominant notes of chocolate and nuts.
Magneto Blend is also about our family story. Our dad, Perry Taylor, was a pilot for Macair in the 1970’s. He was sent on clandestine flights in and out of remote areas of Papua New Guinea transporting gold, silver and other items for mining companies. He would wake up in the morning, brew his coffee and set off to fly his plane over the rugged mountains and through thick clouds to complete the assignments safely.
He started drinking coffee the local way – black as milk isn’t always available and he would always squeeze a few drops of fresh lime juice into his cup to balance out the mouthfeel.
When we first tried this, we were amazed and based our blend off this concept. We use beans from Purosa Estate in PNG and balance out the boldness and mouthfeel with acidity driven Central and South American origins. You’ll enjoy a dense aroma with hints of caramel, bakers chocolate and blackcurrant. It’s a beautiful coffee suited for everyday drinking that brings people together.
Why did we call it Magneto? In aviation magnetos supply power to the spark plugs in the cylinders. “Mags on” we say before firing up the engine. And that’s exactly what this coffee does – it ignites our engine.
