Clandestino Coffee x Saya Skincare

Because we just love coffee, we teamed up with the natural skincare brand based in Noosa and owned by Saya McDermott to bring you a body scrub like no other. With a creamy, whipped texture (just like a latté!), this coffee scrub melts on your skin to exfoliate and moisturise in one. Made with our PNG coffee from Purosa Estate that is grown 100% free from pesticides and synthetic fertilisers.

Tell us a bit about Saya and how it came to be?

Having struggled with bad skin for years, I found it difficult to find a product that helped my skin. I was so frustrated that it became my mission to learn how to create my own skincare products. I spent a lot of time researching and experimenting different formulations.

Over time, my formulations seemed to be working, and my skin got better. Seeing what these incredible natural and organic ingredients could do was the start of my passion for skincare.

I’ve been selling my products for about 15 years now, and it’s been so amazing to see the brand change so much over the years.
Saya McDermott We're in love with the concept to only use botanical ingredients!

Plants hold such incredible powers which can be extracted and used to benefit our own skin. I find it so fascinating to understand how these botanicals work and the great things they can do for the skin.

What are some of the Australian native ingredients that we can find in your product range?

We use a wide variety of native botanicals such as Kakadu plum, Illawarra flame tree, desert lime and quandong (just to name few). These native botanical ingredients are exposed to extreme weather conditions in Australia, with harmful sun rays and drought. They have developed a highly efficient self-defense system composed of a cocktail of various powerful compounds to survive and thrive.

Technology allows us to extract these compounds, stable and alive and add them into our skin care formulations.

What’s your company's approach to sustainability?

Every decision we make, we keep sustainability in mind. We’re proudly 100% Australian-owned, and all of our products are manufactured within Australia. Even our product packaging is produced in Australia, which is either PET plastic or Miron Glass. Both these and the labels can be recycled (labels to go into soft plastic recycling, which is available at most Coles & Woolworths stores).

As we are certified organic, our products are already held to a very high standard, ensuring traceability to the source and sustainable farming practices. Our entire range is also vegan & cruelty-free, and only ever tested on friends and family!Saya Clandestino Coffee scrubHow can we better connect with nature?

Going for a walk outside, organising an outside lunch date with friends, watching a sunset or even filling your space with plants, bringing nature inside. If you’re lucky enough to live in Noosa, connecting with nature is easy!

Thoughts on the keys to longevity - whether it’s in business, health or life?

Make sure you do your research, have a passion for what you do, learn from your mistakes  and don’t give up when you’re challenged.Organic coffee scrubWhat’s the best thing about the coffee scrub?

The buttery, whipped formula isn’t like anything else on the market. The product melts onto the skin, providing incredible hydration, whilst the coffee, sea salt and sugar components exfoliate the skin beautifully.

Shea butter and coconut oil are amazing for replenishing and nourishing the skin, and can help with excessive dryness, scarring and stretch marks. Coffee is a great antioxidant that helps to stimulate and brighten the skin, and has even been proven to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Anyone who wants smooth, hydrated and nourished skin can use it. I love to use it in the shower, massaging the product onto damp skin and letting it sink in for a few minutes before rinsing it off. It’s so hydrating you can skip moisturising, which is perfect for someone who is time poor.

How do you drink your coffee?

I love coffee but i try to limit my intake to one or two a day. An almond bongo is my choice!
