What we do↓

We are constantly pursuing ways to reduce our impact on the environment. We are incredibly proud to sit strong with our core values - sustainable, ethical & environmental - since day one we opened our roastery back in 2011.

What we do:

We're committed to contributing to Australia's 2025 National Packaging Targets
  • 100% of all Australia’s packaging will be reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025 or earlier
  • 70% of Australia’s plastic packaging will be recycled or composted by 2025
  • 50% average recycled content will be included across all packaging by 2025
  • Problematic and unnecessary single-use plastic packaging will be phased out through design, innovation or introduction of alternatives
We actively reduce and recycle waste across our operations

Some of our actions include:

  • Recycling all cardboard, plastic, glass and organic waste (for example, we have installed a worm farm for our organic waste and food scraps and reusing cardboard boxes from our suppliers for shipping)
  • Investing into cardboard shredder to repurpose boxes as void fillers for our online orders
  • Reducing and/or phasing out single-use packaging where we can (for example, we use metal drums for our wholesale deliveries and collect the empty ones weekly)
  • Becoming a member of Aspire to divert waste from ending up in landfill (for example, offering our coffee jute bags to our community for free, coffee grounds used for composting)
  • Offering a $0.50 discount to customers who bring their own reusable cup
  • Offering a $5 discount for customers who bring our cold filtered coffee growlers for a refill
Striving for energy efficiency

Our solar system installed in 2016 is one of the largest in the Noosa area and is powering our operations in the roastery and cafe with clean and renewable energy. This step allowed us to reduce our impact by 121 tonnes of CO2 per year, and we’re not stopping our efforts here. To ensure maximum energy efficiency, the solar system was installed in conjunction with an LED lighting upgrade and power factor correction technology. We're giving our panels a regular clean to keep their efficiency up to the maximum.

Seek out recyclable and biodegradable materials

    Some of our actions include:

    • Our coffee bags (including the labels) are 100% recyclable and made from soft plastic. We believe that it is the most sustainable and environmentally appropriate solution available today that also preserves the freshness and quality of your coffee beans inside. We chose soft plastics because they are easy to collect, sort and recycle and can be turned into new products which further reduces the need for new raw materials and energy consumption. Learn how to recycle our coffee bags.
    • Our take away cups and lids are the next generation of environmentally friendly take away cups that are made with water-based polyethylene (PE) lining (certified to AS5810 home compostable and Industrially Compostable (AS4736 & EN13432) standards) instead of plastic. Currently, Aqueous cups contains a small trace of plastic (3%) but is on track to become 100% plastic free and home compostable in the near future, which will allow for the product to be fully recycled with paper waste. We're thrilled to be part of this movement and also the first company in Australia to offer 6oz and 12oz tall Aqueous.
    • Our clear cups and lids are made from Ingeo™ plant-based bioplastic. Certified industrially compostable to Australian AS4736 standards.
Actively choose recyclable options and repurpose materials
    • Our shipping boxes are made from recyclable cardboard, we recycle boxes from our suppliers where we can, use paper tape and void fillers made with in-house cardboard shredder. We set a goal to switch to recycled cardboard shipping boxes in the near future.
    • We use environmentally friendly cleaning products in our warehouse and cafe
Offer gear & merch solutions that reduce single or short term use
    • We seek brew gear that is of highest quality and will serve our customers for many years
    • We encourage customers to switch to environmentally friendly options where possible by offering these online (for example, we encourage purchasing a metal filter for Aeropress to replace the paper filters)
    • Cheap products with short lifespan have no place in our retail offer

Actively seek out partners & suppliers that share our values
    • We team up with other businesses that are committed to reduce their environmental impact and offer organic products that are promoting health & well-being
    • We love to supply our coffee to cafes, restaurants and other businesses who care deeply about the environment and are aligned with our values so we can make a greater impact in the community
Member of APCO (Australian Packaging Covenant)

    Some of our actions include:

    • As a member of APCO, we are committed to evaluate and record our journey towards sustainable packaging through the Annual Report and Action Plan each year.
    • We are constantly reevaluating what we do right and what can be done better.
